Camscapade.com. Is it a scam? (2018 updated – Yes it was a scam)

Here is the early article from before they took models’ monies and vanished…

Is Camscapade a scam? I think not. However, like most things, time will tell and there have now been allegations.

The End. Just kidding.

It is all a bit strange though. Or is it?

Ambition and some money (a lot of) is required to start up a cam site. I know not because I have (well does mine count?) but because I will one day. ‘Camscapade’, launched 1st April 2017, had most of the right ‘stuff’ but seems to have almost fell at the first hurdle. How could this be? I believe it is just unforeseen circumstances resulting in banking issues. Then the power of the collective recoil against this bad luck from those who matter the most. The cam models who use the site and the ensuing allegations.

So the problem isn’t the slightly dated and glitchy design or it’s confusing offers and incentives. We would hope and understand the site would eventually be improved and these imperfections ironed out. Everyone has to start somewhere and experiment with how to get something new to work. It is the reports that an owner is taking slightly nefarious actions leaving many models left with late or missing payments and uneasy feelings of being manipulated. In my opinion all is fair in webpage launches, love, war, driving traffic and customer acquisition and perhaps there is an explanation.

A quick rundown of reported events

Firstly. Some models have been paid very late or not at all yet. One of the owners claimed that there was a legal issue with their initial main choice of payment processor. Obviously this would be the nail in the coffin for any site if people were just not being paid period. However, they are or will be according to the ownership. They are receiving payments in ways they would never be expected to in most cases. While Western Union and Paypal are notoriously linked to the words scam and warning in the Adult Industries, if the reports are true, it may be the only way for the owner to pay at the moment.

Here is where it gets weird. For a moment anyway. Reports of an owner, using aliases, tipping the models without the webcam models knowing it is him. Allegedly the discovery was made when he either by accident or on purpose revealed himself on camera and was then identified as the owner. This is where I’ve given the most thought. Very creepy and strange would be most peoples’ opinions I’m sure you will agree. But. Is it really that creepy? Or could it have a more open minded explanation?

A possible more open minded explanation

Here is what your trusty blogger Ayumi thinks. Let me be clear, this is just my theory. He has money to spend from the budget of the business. The models are gorgeous. And trust me, they are. He is a guy who enjoys the camming industry. Wink! Wink! After all, he has launched a camming site. Also, the site is new, traffic is low (but steadily growing) and the models are not making tips often. Most would leave, I know I would. Why not tip them some big bucks to make them stay through the startup lull. What is the difference, really, between paying every model $2 an hour incentive just to be online than tipping them directly undercover? Both in an incentive budget. The reports show the client (the outed owner with aliases) spent above $200 in some cases in one go. Naturally the first thought of anyone in this situation would be ‘This is a Scam!’. What if the tokens have no value?? The immediate natural thought after he was outed to be using Aliases. Especially as many models were not getting paid yet and the support had dropped off the radar. However as mentioned above, they are getting pay outs even if late or by unconventional means. So nothing really in the long run indicates that Camscapade is a scam.

The sobering truth may be that It’s currently a business not on track to the original intentions. Possibly likely to fail unless some simplification or the right business investments and organisation occurs. Especially in the banking department and perhaps the owner shrugging off the embarrassment (if any is actually expected) and issuing a definitive and transparent statement to the camming community. Steady as she goes and some luck maybe too. Perhaps the affiliate program is his savior also. My only wish is they would add a webmaster referral and a model referral scheme into it. Wink! Wink!

Here is what a model had to say.

Personally it seems like a lot of these issues, could have been avoided if ****** or someone from support had just come online and said “sorry we fucked up, this is what we are doing to fix it and make sure it does not happen again” and keep everyone updated rather than just hoping that no one notices. it would have been better for the sites reputation to have said about the issues them selves than to have the models creating posts about the issue.

Even so. Things can always be not as they seem

There was a site before that I got scammed by with their affiliate program, they just vanished. Taking thousands of my hard earned dollars. Anyway, after a lot of thought I realized that the creator of the site likely didn’t enter the business to actually scam anyone. Perhaps It wasn’t until his site was failing and not turning the projected profits that he decided to vanish while the remaining payouts were still owed. More a crime of opportunity than a premeditated theft. It really gets me paranoid though and since then I only involve myself in tried, tested and established affiliate programs and likewise camming sites.

Thank you to all the people on the forums I lurk in and share many friendships with. You girls and guys rule. Every contribution you make keeps the industry a safer place. Feel free to comment below if you have something to share and lets hope Camscapade and other sites stay on the true path of good business.
